>>128816The general problem is that the most appealing aspect of the story was that it was a suspensful thriller that set up the rivalry between Light and L in such a way where it keept people guessing who was going to win by the end. The second half failed to set up such a story and there was nothing else to do with Light's character other then to tear him down. This made it difficul for people to get invested in the story and charcters. The first half was also smaller in scale and that made it easier for the author to write schemes and mind games for the characters.
