I get the impression UE is super-subsidized and people should exploit that and just not buy into it, long term, if the practices of Epic Games are annoying. It is. Mostly by Nvidia. The engine is garbage for games unless you do a ton of things to it (that are conveniently not taught in graphics design courses sponsored by Nvidia and Epic Games) so you need a more expensive GPU to run it. The cost of GPUs spiraling out of reach leads the average normalfag into cloud gaming, so Nvidia can sell professional data center hardware for insane profit margins. What do video game publishers think about this, you ask? They think it's great. They obsess over piracy to the point they would rather destroy the quality of games with streaming compression, latency, and unaffordable subscription prices in the long term. They also like the idea that they could eventually simply remove old games from history so they can sell you low effort remakes every 10 years. The ability to keep mods from being made is the power grab cherry on top. Always remember: None of these companies are our friends. They want power so badly and genuinely hate you because they can't simply steal your money.

Pro tip that you need to spread: We're going to lose the war on physical games. Start pushing for actual, irrevocable digital ownership instead. But do not ever pay for cloud gaming subscriptions. Don't even use them if they're free. Cloud gaming is the worst possible cancer for the hobby in the foreseeable future.

Nvidia and AMD need to be torn into pieces and scattered into the wind.

Might be something to it. I asked the ole ey ay about pruning some shit off of the base engine and it's doable. You really don't need to hit the OOM and crash when using some tools on UE, you can dev with a weak card, but you need to script the changes in, first. Probably like that with optimization as well. But it's not a big issue, if you pace yourself and pick a type of gameplay that doesn't even require a lot of resources.

I'd imagine Epic Games only stands to lose from any kind of cloud gaming transition. At that point, those huge companies can whip up server-side engines under their generative AI layers and just ignore UE.

One good thing about cloud gaming would be completely not caring about the shape of resources you're using at any given time. Big battle and demands hitting 99x normal? No issue. But of course, corporations will make it suck.

This glowie honeypot seemingly permabanned my real ip for daring to visit it with a spoofer (jshelter if curious) last month even after whitelisting the site I still get a cloudflare error, so I got a bit angry opened tor on brave went to the site and just held down F5.

This shit immediately collapsed, how do they make their sites nowadays geg.

Are Oled or Miniled monitors gooder? Is it worth saving up for an oled or is it smarter to just settle with a miniled instead?

No, it's not. Stop being a 4/g/eet/. The fundamentals are the exact same between monitors and TVs, and the only meaningful difference is in possible framerates and a bit in motion processing, which TVs do better all around because they sacrifice latency for it (but enabling game mode basically turns them into big monitors because game mode is actually good in most TVs now). TVs also don't support over 144hz right now. You can in fact make an educated decision on monitors by looking at TVs, they're all way closer than people want to admit.

t. Has an HDR OLED Phone, a 2,000 zone 2,000 nit miniLED VA TV, and a 165hz 1440p IPS monitor with a terrible 700:1 contrast ratio and obviously fake HDR that looks worse when you enable it. And did basic research this way.

I have it all and the biggest difference by miles is between the IPS monitor and the miniLED TV. In fact my phone only looks meaningfully better than my TV in mostly pitch dark HDR scenes with very small highlights when all the lights in the room are off. OLED jitter is admittedly mostly bad when trying to read light text on a black background. Ironically, OLED is at it best where it's also at its worst.

Not trying to sound upset with you personally, but it's really hard for me because display discussion pisses me off so much. I['ve seen too many boomers buy an OLED TV for news broadcasts instead of infrequent home theater use, and too many people blame miniLED because they bought a low tier one for a pitch black home theater 4 years ago. Then there are the hardware/monitors unboxed and LTT, and other techtuber fanboys who aren't even real people in my eyes.

So then the question for you is whether or not the shorter lifespan bothers you or not. Might want to hold off a little bit and wait for sales in any case, because monitors are one of the few things that still get decent sales near the end of the year and if you go with OLED prices are coming down steadily every year.

Well, installing arch turned out to be easy. At least on the VM.
Anyway, is there anything specific to avoid ev&doe it's recommended everywhere? troonware etc.
I'm planning to run with wayland, hyprland, rice it up a bit but overall keep it simple and bloatless. tired of retard windows and it's… everything. especially the invigilation and performance.

erm… yeah the installation from ISO is easy but you have the POST-installation to worry about since you're basically booting into a highly insecure system.

being logged in as root is insecure, better to download sudo and be logged in as a user to minimize duration of being root

getting to the point where you're able to use a desktop environment is difficult and takes a lot of time.

don't forget to configure your firewall, check systemctl for any failed services, check your logs and don't forget that pacman -Syu can send you back to tty.

plus more things I haven't mentioned, read post install recommendations or something.
