I've been thinking about the god of war plot lately. Its hard to see a reason why the gods of olympus are meant to be the bad guys.
Kratos has all the reason in the world to hate zeus of course, zeus has been causing him nonstop suffering since he was a little boy, there I don't see why the game invites us to hate zeus beyond the fact kratos hates him and we like kratos.
As the king of gods and men, zeus has a responsibility that stretches far beyond what we could imagine, to the point where his actions against kratos can start to make sense, and the idea that all the other gods would defend him is also perfectly logical.
Zeus is under no obligation to let kratos kill him, and his desire of remaining alive stems both from self preservation and also the determination to maintain the world kratos is actively destroying by killing all the gods.
This wouldn't bother me so much if not because of the ending of god of war 3, where kratos suddenly pivots into a humanistic point of view by denying athena and giving hope to humanity, the humanity we just spent an entire game ravaging. If it were just the story of kratos, then i think i would be more willing to let it slide. The game is about just destruction for its own sake until the very end where we do a redditor's anti-theistic fantasy, a payoff the games don't earn.
God of war 1 remains the best.

In fairness by the end of GoW 3, I think Kratos was arguably just sick of being a pawn for the gods. That seems like a pretty central thing to his character. Denying Athena fits pretty well with that.

People shit on the Norse games because Kratos isn't a rage monster anymore, but I honestly think they're a natural evolution of the path he was going down by the end of the original trilogy.

At first I thought that aswel, but im not sure it applies to kratos. Kratos never shows he is against all gods or wants to destroy the entire system. He kills gods because they get in the way and the world gets destroyed because of it.
Once he kills zeus, he really has no reason not to give athena what she wants, or a reason to give hope to humanity or whatever he does. Athena was the only one who actively cared about him after all.
It sure fits better the idea he did it as a final fuck you to the gods rather than because he became altruistic out of nowhere.

I never played 4 or 5 so no idea anyways, they are lame movie games like everything sony has made since like 2011, maybe earlier. The lowest form a videogame could have.

4 and 5 were alright gameplay-wise. Definitely a departure from the original trilogy but still really fun overall. Think I played 4 for like 23 hours straight when I first got it geg

But yeah, in Ragnarok he actually blows up at Freya for telling him to "just shut up and kill things". They leaned very heavily into the idea that he wanted to be free of control/being a pawn.

As for the niggers, the Vanir and Jotun are supposed to be entirely separate races, and Vanaheim is a tropical jungle. The Vikings sailed far enough south that they would know niggers existed. It's weird but not entirely out of the question
