The modding scene for the switch is slowly getting better, so yes you should. You can also buy boxed switches and sell them for ridiculous prices in the future

For games, if you are pirating it doesnt matter but 2029ish will also be a good time. What happens with every console at the end of its life is that prices will spike right as its no longer being sold for new systems. Then any used consoles/games decrease in price for a few years after the system isnt sold. Then some big event happens, bringing it back into peoples attention and making everything spike absurdly high and never go down. Or just a nostalgiafag wave on chinktok. Ive seen it happen with the 3ds and ps3. The 3ds and its games were pretty cheap 2020-2022, because the system had just been discontinued officially and nophono cared. Then about 2023ish the online shut down and recently the eshop shut down, both increasing prices, and because of nostalgiafags its stupidly expensive now.

With the ps3 it was a complete SNCA console from like 2018-2025. And now that they shut down the online store it brought some attention so prices for games at least have increased.

If you want to buy a console new, just do it now. Id recommend looking around online for one which was bought and sold barely used, since some bought it just to play like one game. If you want to use the official joycons, get one or two spares since they are pretty shit and if you plan on using it handheld for a long time. They will be one of the first things to go up in price once officially discontinued, mark my words.

Switch Lite is handheld-only and you can't detach the joycons whatsoever. The screen is also a bit worse iirc. The regular switch can be played handheld and docked and you can change the joycons. Not much point getting a light, theyre a little cheaper but you're better off with the option to play docked.
