I liked the DSi because I could play music on it and Flipnote Hatena was top tier entertainment. I always wished it had GBA compatibility, but I kept my blue original DS for that, at least.

It was held back by the minidvd disks. It was hard to port a lot of games to it because you had to use 2 discs, and devs understandably didn't want to design games with a disc swap system. Nintendo also kneecapped themselves with the Wii U by designing the stupid plastic shell first and then telling the engineers to slap hardware in it. The problem is that the Wii U could have been 20-30% more powerful with just a slightly larger power supply and a moderately larger heatsink, and this ended up hurting the ability to port games to it. Nintendo is honestly stupid when it comes to hardware.

its crazy to think that the gamecube would have basically been a wii if nintendo didn't leak so hard over piracy. They could have at least beat the xbox if they had made it also capable of playing dvds and had gotten some 3rd party support

There was an actual technical design decision behind using mini-DVD and that is the games load much faster than from normal sized disks. Typical DVD read speed was like 4x back then.

That didn't make it any more difficult to port games, which is what starved the Gamecube of many games after 2003. Nintendo didn't want to pay for DVD licensing either. In fact, Nintendo created a new type of disc for the Wii U to avoid any blu-ray licensing fees because Nintendo was betting on the Wii U selling as well as or better than the Wii because they were extremely delusional back then.
