>So the Deltarune is a universe where a philosophic idea of panpsychism is very much applicable, meaning that every object in the Deltarune world has a mind and a body. However, these two elements aren't enough to create a living creature - it also needs a soul. Soul contains compassion, emotions, love, LoVE, EXP, ATK, DEF, and, most importantly determination, which allows for beings like monsters and humans to exist. So what this means is that, for example, your own household objects like TV, playing cards, trashcans and et cetera have a consciousness and memories of their own, but they don't have the determination to express it, so they remain just that, lifeless objects. However, this is only true when the lights are on, i. e. in the Light World.
>In deltarune there are normal photons and negative photons, which represent light and darkness respectively (see Gaster Entry 17 for reference). When it's day time, there is more light than shadow, so you see the world as it is, with normal objects: the real world, the Light World; when it's night time, light is cancelled out by shadow, so you see and feel nothing besides your own imagination. However, there is another state: if you create negative photons, the darkness will subdue light, creating an inverted view of reality, the Dark World. You can perform this by channeling your determination into a blade and stabbing the Earth and creating the Dark Fountain. By doing this, you create negative light and de facto "share" your determination with the inanimate objects nearby, making them alive based on how you value or treasure them. For example: walls and floors and such will just change in appearance a bit; various held items will probably become your ITEMs, which increase your stats like in some sort of rpg; items that you have attachment to, like your old toys, favorite books or dust of deceased relative will become Darkners - real living beings.
>The only way to seal the dark fountain is to use the power of human soul, which can emit pure light that defeats the darkness.
>Now, also, when the Dark Fountain is created, there are also some objects that are based on pure darkness instead of their light world alternative, one of them being Shadow Crystals. In light world, they are just dim pieces of glass, however, for a brief moment you can actually see a Dark World through them. In the Dark World, shadow crystals are only shadows flowing like water in your hand; and looking through them, you can see the Light World without the lens of shadow. Darners who obtain the shadow crystal and see through it become insane because they realise that their whole world and existence is only a lie without any real freedom. Freedom is also one of the many themes of Deltarune, because there is also a Prophecy that dictates the future of the world. Various darkners tried to escape it: Jevil was in denial, he thought that because nothing hecking mattered he could do anything, so he just started pulling random shit and killing everyone; Spamton was desperate, he tried to steal our Soul and escape the dark world, but, because he was simply a spam program, it wasn't possible; Ramb didn't get the crystal but he was in deep depression so he tried to help Kris obtain the freedom that he never could; Gerson achieved acceptance and didn't use the crystal, instead finding the freedom in rewriting the prophecy and not interpreting it literally.
>There are also many other things like Knight, titans, eram, eggs and et cetera but what I said is the info for starters.
