It's nice to see him going back to horror after all the weepy phony "inspirational" bullraisin he started putting out, and his son's first nepobaby movie Black Phone. He always goes back to the same era, same local, same tropes. His talents are pretty limited.

He is a good writer. And even if you read his recent novels, you can tell he has talent. You cannot deny his talent. Even if the story is basic and simple, he brings the characters to life in a way no other novelist can. There is a reason Stephen King TO THIS DAY has movies and tv shows based on his books and many of those adaptations make top lists in sales and get big name actors and directors.
Stephen King is a phenomenon.

The Shining is one of the top horror films ever.
Every fucking year, there are TV shows based on his novels.
Every year there are movies based on his novels.
He has created literal classics and has made a name for himself in horror next to HP Lovecraft and Bram Stoker.

Every year major TV shows and movies based on his works are released and make lots at the box office and the shows have lots of viewers. His works also attract top directors and actors. It attracts major studio funding too.

Not really, his novels are really good and it isn't only good because of the plot, and as you mentioned, the plot can be simple sometimes. It is world of characters he brings to life. If you are unable to read his novels and notice how he brings the character's to life and the way he writes in general, then you are undeveloped and need to refine your palate. I have read some of his raisintier novels, I only like horror, but he has a gift at brining characters to life.
If you cannot accept this, then that is too bad.

The Dark Tower, Dreamcatcher, Graveyard Shift, Lawnmower Man (which admittedly had basically nothing to do with his story, which was originally about a fucking satyr that ate the grass off people's lawns) Maximum Overdrive, Cell, Thinner. He has shat out four stinkers for every good story he's told, and even the decent ones like It require major rewrites because for some reason the sick fuck things things like child gangbangs are great bonding material. You're not denying what I'm saying. Saying "He had MAJOR hits" doesn't undo that he also had MAJOR flops. He has had MAJOR bombs every decade. He's had MAJOR bombs. They adapt Dark Tower and who do they cast as "old white daddy"? Idris fucking Elba. It bombed, like more of his adaptations do than not. The Barbie movie was a major hit, the Minecraft movie was a major hit. Does that even make them good?

I am on the last episode of Midnight Mass.
There is pretty much one main brown character, and in the second last episode he goes on a monologue about how no matter what he does, people see him as Osama Bin Laden. This is a series where the dei hires couldnt ruin it. It is a solid TV show.
In Midnight Mass, there are a few moments where you can tell it was roastie coded, mainly the scenes with excessive dialogue or topics about trauma. Unfortunately, any thing that involves girls, will have some garbage in it. Overall, the series is very solid. 10% garbage.

This Mike Flanagan guy makes some good horror shows. I will check out his other shows after this one.
