What causes this retardation? Why can't I use both? It's entirely reasonable to assume something can be good at one thing and bad at another, and an alternative exists that is vice versa. Would I not gain the most value if I used both of them?

I rarely see people argue this. Do (You) have any examples of using multiple solutions?
I use an iPhone and an Android, and dual boot Windows + Linux, for example
