Now I've seen this before in a old discussion and it's very easy to argue against.

1: these countries in Africa weren't built for the purpose of helping the native communities they were built to abstract resources. The colonizers didn't even asked if the natives wanted this or not.

2: when the empires left after colonization the state of Africa was left in chaos. I know people point to Africans having a hard time taking care of these nations this because most of there knowledge was or is limited to the jobs and positions given to them by European empires. Good examples are farming , a lot of tribes were forced to move and have there farming areas given to Europeans. They were also not taught western style farming for the tools or how to grow some of these western.

I should further bring up how a lot of these cultures not only changed but lost of their old knowledge. A lot Africans lost their old tribal knowledge and cultures ever since colonization. Many tribes that lived under these commonwealths and were forced to abandon their cultural knowledge and follow western ideas. This was problem because each kid in different generations only knew some of the western teachings they were forced to learn , if they did try and go back to the old ways they would have a problem surviving becauing these commonwealth nations are the only things know about.

3: same thing happened to native Americans. The native tribes in California were forced to learn and live under western culture, one of the old skills they lost was control burning. Also just Africa, some of the middle eastern nations were under the influence of European powers. Now a lot of them are having civil wars like Israel and Palestine.

4: now we go on to China. China and other Asians nations have a different history, first off they weren't split off from the rest of the world like sub saharan Africa with the saharan desert. Although China had a problem adapting and surviving the changing world . they never fought in big wars against other kingdoms/nations, they only fought with themselves so they only know how to fight against themselves and were somewhat comfortable in that state. They also had a lot of corruption in their government, which made it worse during the colonization era when they taken over by European powers.

I remember learning about the opium wars and how one commander suggested a plan to strap fireworks to the backs of monkeys and catapult the poor creatures onto the British ships in the hope that they would blow up their powder magazines. In the event, nobody could get close enough to launch the monkey bombs at the enemy. Interesting enough China being taken over by European empires did influenced Japan to change their old system and start adapting western ideologies and government in order to not only survive but to not end up like China.

Now we all know china did started adapting western ideas as well, it ended up being communism. It's ironic because they're not only authoritarian, but they're trying to erase a lot of their own history and different cultures in their country.

5: last thing to note , If i recall the Chinese guy brought up how China didn't even had trains or railroads in 1900s even though The first railroad to operate commercially in China opened in Shanghai in July 1876. So I feel like both of these guys don't know what they're talking about or understand full histories of their countries.

Side note: I forgot to mention how China is trying to over and abstract resources from their former communist African allies.
